Failed pogo stick attempt

The kid in this video tries to attempt a back flip on a pogo stick. However, he fails as his friend’s pogo stick hit him straight in the crotch. What I don’t understand is, why the other kid was holding the pogo stick in the direct vicinity behind the back flip?
